Graduate Sales Engineer – Winchester

Firefly are a small semiconductor and microchip distributer based in Winchester and they were looking for a recent Science or Computer Engineering Graduate to join the team as a Sales Engineer. This is always one of the toughest briefs combining technical skills and sales is always tricky. The big plus with this one was the MD of the business is looking for someone to pass the business on to in 10 years or so giving the role an extra dimension and hook for those hard to find and in high demand candidates. The salary on the role was £25-30k.

Firefly have no internal HR or Recruitment resource so we needed to fully manage the recruitment process for them by looking after all attraction, engagement, assessment up until a face to face interview, the MD would then pick up from here and manage the interview and offer process through to a hire being made. Initially we advertised the role but applications were slow due to the time of year and competition for this type of role but we did get 1 suitable candidate through who would be interviewed. However we needed more options so we then started sourcing candidates from the CV Databases and linkedin, we would speak to these candidates and explain all about the business and why this opportunity was different meaning we got much better engagement from candidates. We had lots of conversations and eventually found 5 candidates who would be suitable for the role. We then put the 6 candidates through an online behavioural test and benchmarked performance against the other 7 people who already worked in the business, if people scored above 75% which 4 did they were interviewed. From the 4 interviews a candidate stood out and was hired.
